St Martins Lutheran College has celebrated the opening of the school’s 2021 Art Show.
The evening saw a small number of families and community members attend the college for what was a night of music, food and art.
The college’s Foundation to Year 12 students produced and showcased hundreds of art pieces displaying a wide variety of mediums. The stand-out pieces included paintings, prints, digital art and much more.
St Martins Lutheran College Principal Alan Connah said it was a night for students to be proud of their artwork.
“We are extremely impressed with the quality and variety of work presented by our students,” he said.
“Their art truly reflects the incredible amount of hard work, talent and skill invested. We are very proud of their achievements.”
Mr Connah said a big focus of the night was the awards presentation.
“This year the college was fortunate enough to have Arts and Cultural Development Officer for City of Mount Gambier Serena Wong and esteemed local photographer Tim Rosenthal as the art show judges,” he said.
“The accolade of ‘Best in Show’ went to Year 12 student Neave Delaney for her body of work ‘Bubbles that Float Around Me’.
“The other major award for the evening is the Sarafina Morale Memorial Trophy and was awarded to Year 10 student Kaelan Mee.”
Guest judge Ms Wong was impressed with the work on display.
“It always brings me great joy to see the creativity and skills of the next generation of artists and being asked to judge the St Martins Lutheran College Art Show is a real privilege,” she said.
“There are students with some serious talent and I look forward to seeing where their creativity takes them.”
Fellow judge Mr Rosenthal was equally as impressed.
“The level of creativity and artistic skill shown by these talented young students of St Martins Lutheran College is absolutely amazing. It was such a pleasure to be involved in the 2021 Art Show,” he said.
The event was catered entirely by the college’s Year 11 Food and Hospitality students, who planned, prepared and executed an assortment of cocktail food.
Students from the college’s middle and senior school performed throughout the evening and the entertainment was topped off with performances from the senior and jazz choirs.
