Limestone Coast women focus on drought resilience

Two Limestone Coast women have been selected to take part in the Federal Government’s Future Drought
Fund.

One mentee and one mentor have been selected in Barker for round two of the fund’s Drought Resilience Leaders program.

Naracoorte’s Courtney Higgs has been selected as a mentee while Danielle England from Kingston will be a mentor.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin said the program gave farmers and others in regional communities the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills through leadership development and mentoring to help build local drought resilience.

“The program will bring participants together to share knowledge and experience,” he said.

“Farming skills, including drought resilience, are passed down from generation to generation.

“This program is about facilitating those connections to benefit farming communities here in Barker.

“The mentoring program will continue nationally with 300 mentees matched with 250 mentors.

“I’d encourage any interested farmers and those employed in the agricultural sector to contact ARLF to find out how they can get involved.

“The Drought Resilience Leaders program also has a series of webinars offered until to June 2022 with a focus on drought, climate, and supporting resilience on farms and communities.

“Anyone can listen into these webinars.”
