Holmes’ Family Dental staff dresse as their Disney alter-egos for a themed Kids’ Day last week while raising funds for two great causes.
The clinic holds the Kids’ Days twice a year and Dr Isabel Holmes said the children who attended were very excited to visit the dentist.
“This is the second exclusive children’s day that we have done and it was pre-booked six months in advance from last time,” she.
“Being a family-oriented clinic we want children to feel included and comfortable about making regular visits to the dentist.
“We also think it’s so important to raise awareness about children’s oral health because it can be an area that gets neglected or forgotten in current times.
“If we can educate parents and children alike on oral health and provide some simple oral health techniques then it might prevent decay and cavities in children’s teeth, it also helps establish really good oral health habits for the rest of their lives.”
Along with having fun dressing up, the clinic also donated a portion of every child’s dental appointment to the Starlight Foundation and RFDS.
To make the day extra special, there were colouring in activities and goody bags with dental products and novelty dental toys inside.
Dr Holmes said the staff enjoyed the themed days and arrived at work early to decorate the space with balloons and streamers.
“We do encourage the kids to dress up also, so we quite often get the children coming in costume,” she said.
“We really want to promote exciting and positive dental experiences for kids.”
The practice also participates in the Child Dental Benefits Schedule where the government funds up to $1025 towards dental treatments over two calendar years for children eligible for Medicare aged 2 to 17 years old or their parents receive an eligible Centrelink payment.
Dr Holmes said although the clinic had busy appointment books, they continued to welcome new patients.
The clinic will open additional appointment times soon when they relocate to their purposely fit-out clinic on Ferrers Street on September 12, with extended hours most days.
