Resthaven Mount Gambier recently got festive for their much-anticipated Christmas in July celebrations.
Resthaven Mount Gambier opened on July 4, 2011 and it was not long before the home started celebrating their anniversary each year with a Christmas in July feast.
Resthaven chief executive Darren Birbeck was a special guest at the annual event, which is held at the time of year when the Limestone Coast temperature closely resembles a European Christmas rather than a typical Australian winter.
Resthaven manager Belle Kerr said residents, staff and volunteers worked together to decorate the home with festive Christmas tinsel, lights and baubles.
“Our Christmas in July event is always a lot of fun, with guests enjoying a traditional three-course meal, including turkey with all the trimmings and pudding with brandy custard,” Ms Kerr said.
“The dining rooms were decorated and guests pulled their bonbons and happily donned their paper crowns.
“The most anticipated guest at the December Christmas event is, of course, Father Christmas, but at the Christmas in July event, the most anticipated guest is Darren.
“It was a wonderful, festive event, and we look forward to doing it again next year.”
Later in the evening, Mr Birbeck was joined by Resthaven board president Mark Porter when he hosted the annual Resthaven Staff Appreciation Dinner, which celebrated the long-serving Resthaven staff across the Limestone Coast.
