All the fun of the fair will be on offer this Saturday as the Mil Lel Show is held for the first time in three years.
Last year’s show was cancelled the week of the event, due to increased COVID-19 restrictions following a positive case in Mount Gambier.
Mil Lel Agriculture and Horticultural Society treasurer Liza Kirby said last year’s turn of events was devastating because the committee was so ready for the show and did not get to execute it.
“We have had a lot of support from the community, so it is exciting to be able to do it again for them,” she said.
“The community are excited to come back, socialise and showcase what they can do.
“It is a pretty well-rounded day out and it is lovely to have families come out, take part in it, and enjoy it.
“We have a small committee, and they cannot do it all, so it is only possible due to locals stepping up and volunteering.”
There will be plenty for the kids including slides, an activity centre, glitter tattoos, face painting and running races.
Mrs Kirby said it was the kind of environment where children were encouraged to have a go.
“It is a setting where kids can perform in the Topsy Ring, Pony Club or the Encourage Rings,” she said.
“The cattle section has invited a lot of junior handlers to lead cattle on the day and there are a few young kids dancing live.”
This year’s show will feature an agricultural aspect with horse events including the inaugural Stockman’s Challenge, animal nursery, pet parade, horse and cart rides, and cattle.
Catering will be provided by the Country Women’s Association (CWA), the Tantanoola soft serve ice cream truck, Rotary who will be cooking potato chips and fairy floss- weather permitted, barbecues and coffee vans.
There will also be billy carts, the Mil-Lel Steam & Machinery Association Inc, Ag bike challenge, stalls, competitions and performances by Mount Gambier City Band, Skyline Haze and Highland Dancers.
There will be no eftpos available on the day so showgoers are encouraged to bring cash.
