Experienced campaigner’s Mayoral bid
unsuccessful

One of the nation’s most experienced local government figures has been unsuccessful in his bid to be the next Mayor of Tatiara.

After a seven-year break from public life, John Ross sought the role, running against current deputy mayor Councillor Liz Goossens.

She won the ballot 1927 votes to 796.

The mayoralty became vacant as Graham Excell stepped down after eight years in the role.

Mr Ross is a former chairman of the South East Local Government Association, Local Government Association of SA, Tatiara District Council and the Australian Local Government Association.

He was a Tatiara councillor from 1979-2015.

Among his many roles, Mr Ross chaired the Forestry SA Board for four years.

His service to the community was rewarded with membership of the Order of Australia.
