Only one member of the 2018-22 Robe District Council will serve for the coming four years.

Councillor Ned Wright was re-elected and continues his long involvement in local government.

He also served on Robe council between 2006 and 2010 along with the Mount Barker District Council from 2003 to 2006.

The other five successful candidates at the Robe District Council were past councillor Marcia Dening and the freshly-elected Kylie Peel, Duncan Young, Nick Brown and Lisa Ruffell.

Mr Brown is a past Robe council deputy chief executive and a former Kingston District Council chief executive.

Ms Ruffell has had eight years as an elected member in local government at Bendigo, Victoria.

The unsuccessful candidates were serving councillors David Laurie (deputy mayor) and Mark Baker, past councillor Kristina Alexander along with Fred Wasson, Peter Fried and Mark Murphy.

The six incoming Robe councillors will be required to elect a new deputy mayor who will preside until a mayoral election in 2023.

Outgoing Robe Mayor Alison Nunan stood down from the role after one term.

“Unfortunately, there were no nominations for the mayoral vacancy which means there will be a supplementary election commencing early next year with completion around March,” Ms Nunan said.

“This will give our community time to find people in our midst who will be willing to nominate for the role.

“It is truly an eye-opening job to do within the community and I can thoroughly recommend it.

“It is diverse, interesting and pretty time consuming but worth the effort.”
