Millicent kindness for cancer patients

Cancer patients at the Mount Gambier Hospital are again in receipt of a kind-hearted pre-Christmas gesture.

Those undergoing chemotherapy treatment are being presented with gift-wrapped glasses and mugs filled with chocolates.

It is a long-running annual initiative of the Millicent Cancer Support Group and its members have prepared 150 such gifts for distribution in 2022.

Group president Lisa McCourt said the numbers have steadily grown over the years.

“We start buying the glasses, mugs and decorations mid-year and then we come together to add the chocolates and a card,” Ms McCourt said.

Her group recently staged its annual general meeting at the Somerset Hotel in Millicent and reflected on a successful year of fundraising and community support.

All offices have been filled for the coming 12 months while some new members have joined the committee.

The Millicent Cancer Support Group staged successful Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Girls Day Out events.

The yearly forum was attended by Michelle de Wit who is the executive officer and director of nursing and midwifery at the Millicent and District Hospital.

She was presented with a cheque for $15,000 to help furnish the new Family Room.
