Lions Club helps ease financial pressure on Millicent radio station

The Millicent Lions Club has warmly responded to an approach for financial assistance from Millicent community radio station 5THE-FM and made a $3000 donation.

The service club has previously made grants to the station over many years but this is by far the greatest single contribution.

The Lions Club members had been addressed at a recent meeting by new station chairman David Walshaw and he explained the considerable financial challenges facing it.

Mr Walshaw said the station’s new management board was meeting each fortnight and was looking to reconcile financial statements and other matters.

“We are live-streaming programs from our studios on Railway Terrace on at least six days per week,” Mr Walshaw said.

“We are also negotiating licensing matters with the Australian Communications and Media Authority and the Department for Consumer and Business Services.”
