Public laundry service closed

Millicent is without a public laundromat for the first time in decades.

The last remaining facility was located in George Street, however it recently closed.

The laundromat was operated by the Bedford Group which is ceasing all involvement with Millicent after 15 years.

The Adelaide-based not-for-profit organisation provided employment for people with disabilities and succeeded the Millicent Work Option Centre.

Its commercial laundry service also closed last week while its gardening service ceased late last year.

The Bedford Group is the freehold owner of the stone building which was erected as the Caught Pharmacy in 1939.

It is expected to be sold.
