Epic contests sweep courts

Another epic of Mount Gambier and District Tennis Association action was encountered at Olympic Park over a cool weekend.

The A Girls had a strong weekend full of competition and fun, with Reidy Park flying fast against Mil Lel/Glencoe as it won 6-0 (6-13 games).

The girls had impressive rallies throughout their matches, having all spectators tuning in to watch the game in full force.

Jayme Young defeated Jessica Douglas 6-4, Maggie Collins defeated Montana Biggins 6-1, Sarah Brown defeated Mikayla Pearson 6-0 and Lara Thorne was too strong for Kelsey Boneham to claim a 6-3 victory.

In the doubles, a strong competition of Brown and Collins teamed up against Douglas and Biggings and were defeated 6-2, while Thorne, and Grace Kutny defeated Pearson and Boneham, 6-3.

Over at West, the side hosted Mount Gambier and was again the stronger side to win 5-1.

Jessica Stutley defeated Shae Delaney 6-0, Alita Huyser claimed the win over Kyra Kuchel 6-3, Layla McPherson defeated Giaan Ferguson 6-2 and Rylee Kuchel defeated Clare Hopegood, 6-0.

Stutley and Kuchel worked together to defeat Delaney and Huyser 6-2 and McPherson and Kuchel defeated Fergsuon and Hopegood 6-5.

West still dominates the ladder in top spot, with Reidy Park second followed by Mount Gambier and Mil Lel/Glencoe.

This week, Reidy Park will match up against Mount Gambier and Mil Lel/Glencoe will come up against a strong West Gambier side.

In Division 3 last weekend Mount Gambier had the bye, Uniting claimed a hard-fought win over Moorak, 7-5 (56-48 games) and Centrals had a massive win against Mil Lel 12-0 (73-14), with West Gambier rounding out the weekend with a win over Suttontown 9-3.

Toby Stutey defeated Christian McCombe 6-2, Rafeal Rigopoulis defeated Cameron Pritchard 6-3, Alexander Rigaux defeated Peyton Robinson 6-1, Kyra Kuchel was too strong in a close match with TrudyAnne Doyle, 7-5, Layla McPherson defeated Allana Movrin 6-0 and Rylee Kuchel won her match against Kimberley Murrell 6-2.

In the doubles Stutley and Rigopoulis defeated McCombe and Pritchard 6-1, McCombe and Rigaux defeated Stutley and Robinson 6-3 while Pritchard and Rigaux defeated Rigopoulis and Robinson 6-2,

K. Kuchel and McPherson defeated Doyle and Movrin 6-0, The Kuchel combo also defeated Doyle and Murrell 6-1 and McPherson and R. Kuchel defeated Movrin and Murrell 6-0.

Next week’s focus will l be on the B Boys and Division 1, with a solid weekend of tennis ensured with a tip-top forecast.
