The Limestone Coast Women’s Football competition straddled the border on Friday night, with matches hosted in Casterton and Mount Gambier.
Casterton’s Island Park hosted two matches, while Mount Gambier’s Vansittart Park was the venue for the other two.
The round featured three one-sided affairs, with only the match between Kybybolite and Penola being a competitive hit out.
In the opening match of the round it was Casterton Sandford showing their dominance at home, keeping their Millicent opponents scoreless.
The Cats, who sit second on the ladder, were never headed by the Saints, with Chloe Foster slotting through an impressive five goals, followed by Makayla Hutchins with four and Libby Altorfer kicking three.
Casterton Sandford stamped their authority from the opening bounce, scoring four unanswered goals in the opening term.
From there they built momentum, going on to kick 17.11 for the match.
Foster was named best for the Cats, along with Gabrielle Sullivan, Hinemoa Biddle-Maitland, Amelia Thomas, Emma Lynch and Altorfer.
For the Saints their better players were Cassie Levison, Stephanie Gilbert, Megan Tilley, Kalli Brown, Michelle Robinson and Kelsie Wilkinson.
Friday night’s second match at Island Park was a much closer affair, with Penola beating Kybybolite by five points.
Penola jumped out of the blocks early, kicking two goals and two points to the Tigers’ two points in the opening quarter.
The game tightened up after that, with the Eagles going to the main break up 27-14, before the Tigers started to claw back the lead.
Kyby kicked 1.2 to the Eagles’ three points in the final stanza, with Penola hanging on for the win.
Kyby’s Genevieve Blake gave it her all, kicking four goals for her side, while the scoring was shared at Penola, with Simone MacDonald and Jasmine Ryan kicking two each.
Penola named Jasmine Ryan, Heidi Berkin, Caroline McGrath, Ellise Berkin and Riley Mitchell as their best players, while for Kyby it was Erin Ewer, Lily Clifford-Finch, Dellie Brown, Taylor Ryan, Tahlia Kavanagh and Emily Cattuzzo.
Across the border in Mount Gambier, North showed why the Tigers are the ladder leaders, putting on an impressive performance at home against Kongorong.
The Tigers took control of Vansittart Park, keeping Kongorong scoreless in the first quarter.
The Hawks were only able to kick a solitary point in the second, going into the main break down 1-36.
It did not get any better for Kongorong in the second half as North continued to kick away, with the Tigers up 55-2 at three quarter time before taking the win 82-2.
North’s Alice Tentye led by example, kicking four goals, with two scored by Geordan Thomas and Laura Chester.
Tentye’s haul saw her named best for the Tigers, followed by Paris Ackland, Luca Roulstone, Laura Chester, Eadie Mustart and Libby Howe-Morgan.
Kongorong named Evie Sealey, Sheree Ailey, Sheba Miller, Taylor Cozzi, Kate Wright and Marnee Formosa as their best.
The final match of the round featured third placed Mundulla up against bottom of the ladder Kalangadoo.
The Tigers showed no mercy against their lower ranked opposition, piling on 10 goals in the opening quarter.
The Magpies had no answer for their opponent, with the Tigers sharing the play across the ground.
Melody Maddern had an impressive haul of seven goals, with Natalie Twigden kicking five, while Renae Feder, Eliza Orrock, Jade Schneider, Casey McElroy and Kaylene Rowett all contributing two each.
Mundulla continued to build their lead across the match, up by 86 at half time, before taking the win 158-0.
The Tigers named Erin Horsnell, Zoe Hawker, Rowett, McElroy, Sammy Hunt and Feder as their best, while for Kalangadoo it was Emily Cooney, Abby Thompson, Lily Oakley, Rachel Jerome and Emma Jerome.
