Pride on the line

East Gambier v North Gambier

East Gambier will head into Saturday’s Western Border Football League clash against North Gambier desperate to find its first win.

North Gambier will be looking to bounce back from two consecutive defeats against a struggling East Gambier side.

The Tigers have remained positive about their two losses knowing there is room for improvement.

They competed with both Millicent and West Gambier in quarters but if they are to be a damaging side come finals they will require four quarters of effort.

East Gambier has lost 14 consecutive games and will be hoping to end that streak and perhaps North Gambier’s inconsistency could let the Doggies in with a chance.

East Gambier will undoubtedly be underdogs, but this could go in their favour if North Gambier is to underestimate them.

The Tigers are comfortably the better side but they cannot let games like these slip as they become very important come finals.

With both sides going into the game with plenty on the line it is sure to be a tough contest between the two sides.

East Gambier will be confident they can get the win at home, while North Gambier will also be confident that playing at the Kennel will not offer too many issues for the big cats.

It’s shaping up to be a great contest between the two sides in round four.

West Gambier V South Gambier

West Gambier remains undefeated after thrashing East Gambier last week and again will go up against a side without a win to its name yet.

South Gambier has suffered defeat in all three of its games this season and will be very concerned where the first win will come from.

Having lost to two sides West Gambier has already dismantled this season it is shaping up to be a tough day for the Demons.

While West Gambier was beaten all three times the two sides met last season, the Roos are well aware they are a much improved team, and South Gambier has gone in the opposite direction so far this season.

South Gambier will be focusing on shutting down the West Gambier forward line, a task easier said than done.

Since round 1 the Roos have had eight multiple goal kickers making them a deadly threat no matter who they choose when going forward.

South Gambier will no doubt be focusing on Braiden Ousey who kicked six against North Gambier and Coach Daron McElroy who booted a massive nine against East Gambier last week.

With a win West Gambier could go into its huge round five clash against the defending premiers Millicent undefeated and full of confidence, a South Gambier win could give the Demons some momentum to their season and hope they can recover after a slow start.

Casterton Sandford V Millicent

Millicent will make the trip across the border to take on a Casterton Sandford side that has gained some momentum after two constructive wins.

After a disappointing loss to West Gambier in their opening match of the season the Cats have responded by winning the next two games, but now face a real challenge in reigning premiers Millicent.

Millicent is fresh off a 50-point thumping of North Gambier that will leave the Victorians aware they may have a very difficult challenge ahead of them.

Shutting down players like Jacob Carger and Sam Willis will be crucial for Casterton Sandford as they combined for 10 goals last round.

Casterton Sandford will be aware the Saints will look to play their natural game and will not be too concerned with what Casterton Sandford does.

The Cats will have to do their best to disrupt how Millicent wants to play and hope they can get the better of them.

For Millicent a win could have them sitting at the top of the ladder heading into their important match against West Gambier.

For Casterton Sandford a win will be enough to keep them in the top four for the week, and even potentially leapfrog Millicent to second but that would require a massive percentage boost.

It will be an exciting game with lots on offer for both sides, the contest will be sure to be an enthralling one for the spectators.
