The Division 2 side came up against a strong Borders team.

Despite the score the girls gave it their all.

Penola held off Borders in Division 1, with plenty of good ball movement throughout the first quarter lead by Tess Porter and Holly Flint.

Strong defence by Heidi Berkin, Phoebe Manarangi and Stella O’Brien held up in the second quarter and some equally good movement and shooting in the circle by Ivy Wurst and Tegan Lythgo down the other end of the court helped Penola extend the lead.

The second half was a lot harder for Penola as Border Districts made a few changes to the line up and managed to reduce Penola’s ability to score with some good defensive pressure.

But it was not all doom and gloom with some great decision making and passing by Ella Skeer and a couple of really good intercepts by Holly Flint.

This helped Penola maintain composure and close the game out.

Best players were Ella Skeer and Ivy Wurst.

In C grade the girls came out firing with a strong lead in the first quarter, having a few goals to achieve and new things to put in practice.

Movement in the circle was clean, allowing some excellent passes.

Defensively Stella had a massive impact on the game shutting down one of their key drivers.

Squish and Lucy worked tirelessly to be up by 34 at half time.

The goals coasted for the remainder of the game which was good to work on small individual skills.

B grade knew that Border Districts would be a tough game and the Eagles would need to play strong netball in order to win.

The Eagles got off to a soaring start in A grade with some slick ball movement and great defensive pressure to win the first quarter by four goals.

With player unavailability from Jordyn Adams and Brooke Klemm, sister Hannah Klemm stepped up to play GK and had an impressive game.

Although Hannah was definitely a lot shorter than her 6ft+ opponent, that did not stop her as she gained multiple deflections.

At the beginning of the second quarter Borders managed to get the jump and capitalise on turnovers scoring the first five goals unanswered winning the quarter 16-7.

The third quarter was a more even affair with some great defensive stops from Chelsea Galpin and Hannah followed by some great work by young gun Tegan Lythgo. while Indi Veneables stopped her WA opponent from having much impact on the game.

A disappointing last quarter saw a strong fight back from the Eagles but Borders were too strong with some of their defensive pressure to stretch their lead to eight by the final whistle.

Best players were Indi Venables and Hannah Klemm.

The club has its first function, a Lawn Bowls Op Shop attire night at the Nest, on Saturday.
