The Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League has again met to discuss the proposed SANFL South East football and netball competition restructure and has again decided to reject it.
Its first meeting to this end was on May 15 and the second was on Wednesday night.
This special general meeting at Naracoorte was attended by the 10 members of the League Executive as well as club presidents and representatives from every member club and affiliated netball clubs.
“At Wednesday’s meeting, there was a resolution unanimously passed to reject the proposal that had been released by the South East football working group,” stated the KNTFL.
“It was agreed the proposal would not be in any way beneficial for the league and further more could actually threaten the future survival of some of its 10 member clubs.
“The KNTFL has communicated its rejection of the proposal to the SANFL’s head of country football Shaun Ford.
“The KNTFL executives and board would like to reassure its clubs, members, players and supporters that contrary to some speculation currently circulating, planning is under way to continue into the 2024 season as a 10-club competition, continuing the successful format currently in place.”
The nine-member SE Working Group recommended on May 10 the Western Border competition be disbanded in 2024 and its six clubs be allocated to either the KNT or the Mid South East.
Furthermore, it was a requirement of the SANFL the two enlarged competitions have new names
The SE Voice had heard a rumour the KNTFL had consulted lawyers on the restructure issue but this newspaper was told by KNTFL operations manager Nigel Clarke that this was incorrect.
This league was formed with 10 South Australian and four Victorian clubs in 1994.
Since then, all four Victorian clubs have departed the KNTFL.
The attention of the local football world now turns to Bordertown on June 10 when the KNTFL meets the Western Border in the SE Carnival.
