Long weekend for police on roads

Limestone Coast police responded to a number of traffic incidents across the region throughout the June long weekend.

About 12.15pm on June 9 police were called to the Riddoch Highway at Marcollat after a B-double truck had lost part of its load.

The driver reported having to take evasive action to avoid a collision with another vehicle which caused the straps securing the load to snap.

No injuries were reported to police as a result of the incident.

Just after 2pm that day a driver was stopped on North Terrace, Mount Gambier for a random roadside breath test.

The driver allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.055.

A 34-year-old Mount Gambier man was reported for drink driving and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Just before 10pm that day, a 37-year-old Victorian man was stopped driving on Beach Road at Beachport for a roadside breath test.

The driver allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.122.

The driver was reported for drink driving and was issued with a six-month instant loss of licence.

Limestone Coast Police were called to Hinton Road at Wandilo just after 10pm that day after reports a car crashed into a pole.

Three of the four passengers of the car sustained injuries in the crash and were taken to the Mount Gambier Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, an 18-year-old Mount Gambier man, was subsequently reported for breaching his P licence conditions due to overloading.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the crash.

Anyone with information on the crash or has dashcam footage that may assist the investigation is asked to contact the Mount Gambier Police.

Police were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Commercial Street West and Avey Road, Mount Gambier just after 4.30pm on June 10.

The occupants of both vehicles received minor injuries and were conveyed by SAAS to the Mount Gambier Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene with major collision damage.

Investigations are continuing.
