Beach speed limits in force

Drivers must now adhere to the new default speed limit of 40kph on SA beaches, reduced further when within 50 metres of a person to 25kph.

Those caught speeding on a beach face fines up to $5000 and risk accruing demerit points.

The reduction of the default maximum speed limit from 100kph comes following a review of speed limits on beaches earlier this year.

As part of the State Government’s commitment to the Road Safety Action Plan 2023-25, a comprehensive review and community engagement was conducted, with a YourSAY survey showing 80% of respondents supported a reduced default speed limit.
