The Tiger Hotel at Tantanoola is set to reopen in October as new owners from Adelaide take over the Railway Terrace business.
The couple has spoken in the public domain of their plans to make it a family-friendly place.
They plan to remove the poker machines which have operated for around 25 years and use this area for functions.
Built almost 140 years ago, the stone building is being re-painted and new carpets laid.
A cottage on the property has also been upgraded and will be let out as a BnB.
The Tiger Hotel suddenly closed its doors in March after the previous managers experienced financial difficulties.
An Adelaide hotel broker was then engaged to sell the business for an undisclosed price.
