Campus open day highlights study

TAFE SA Mount Gambier will host an open day next week featuring campus tours, practical workshops and information sessions.

The campus will throw open its doors and invite the local community to come and explore its diverse range of study and training opportunities and modern facilities on Tuesday, August 1.

TAFE SA’s Education Partnerships – South East Region manager Ally Skeer said whether people were a job seeker, career changer or a school student, TAFE SA’s Mount Gambier Campus Open Day has something to offer and everyone is welcome.

Ms Skeer said the open day will create a vibrant campus atmosphere and include information sessions and guided tours as well as practical activities.

“We’re excited to be hosting our first open day in several years and we want to encourage the community to come along and find out more about the vocational education and training available at our Mount Gambier Campus,” she said.

“TAFE SA delivers high quality, industry relevant training across a range of sectors and this is a great opportunity to find out what’s involved in studying with us.

“Visitors will be able to see our well-equipped workshops and skills labs, meet the lecturers and ask questions.

“We’ll be providing guided campus tours to showcase our excellent facilities, including our new training hub for conservation and eco-system management, horticulture and agriculture students, and hosting a series of course information sessions.”

High school students will be able to put their practical skills to the test with hands-on activities across 10 areas of study.

“The practical sessions for our open day are aimed at Year 10 students who will be making subject choices for 2024 and may want to consider our flexible industry pathway (FIPS) courses which they can study while at high school,” Ms Skeer said.

“Through these hands-on sessions, they’ll be able to use the tools of the trade and get a closer look at our workshops and specialist equipment.”

The TAFE SA Mount Gambier Campus Open Day will be held from 10am to 7pm.

The canteen will be open and community radio station 5GTR will be broadcasting from the campus.

The open day is being held with the support of TAFE SA’s Limestone Coast Regional Skills Advisory Committee and group training providers MEGT and GTE.

Registration is essential for the practical activities and recommended for the information sessions and can be made via the TAFE SA website.
