Clifford signs on as Justice of Peace

Retired mill employee Denis Clifford, of Millicent, is continuing his service to the community by accepting reappointment for a further 10 years as a Justice of the Peace.

Mr Clifford can be regularly found donating his time at the Millicent Public Library by witnessing and certifying documents.

Other community interests over the years have included the St Vincent de Paul Society, Millicent Lions Club and the Mid South Eastern Football League.

As publicity officer, Mr Clifford prepares the Millicent Bowling Club reports and pictures which feature in the sports pages of The SE Voice.

Originally from Furner, Mr Clifford was a foundation member of the Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill when it began operating in 1960.

He devoted the following 40 years of his working life to the mill until his retirement in 2000.

Since then, he has maintained an active interest in its activities and regularly takes tour groups through the facility.

He assisted Mount Gambier author Graham Greenwood in writing the mill’s history book in 2010 and helped to run the annual Quarter Century Club Dinner in Millicent for long-serving past and present employees.

His reappointment as a JP was recently published in the SA Government Gazette along with two others with local connections.

Paula Tsernjavski was formerly the principal of Beachport Primary School while John Higginson was Millicent’s newsagent for 25 years until 2004.

Mr Higginson served as a councillor on the then Millicent District Council and was involved in many local organisations.

They included the Millicent Football Club (secretary), Boneham Aged Care Services (board chairman) and Millicent Business Community Association (president).
