With one round to go before the finals in the Kowree Naracoorte-Tatiara minor rounds the chase for the double chance is heating up after the weekend’s results.
Mundulla faced a challenger in Naracoorte on Saturday and the Demons were looking to continue their charge for a top-three spot on the ladder. The first half was pretty even and the Tigers led by 15 points at halftime. Mundulla took hold of the game in the second half as they put through 12 goals to Naracoorte’s 4 and ran out winners by 67 points. James Hinge was big for Mundulla in the victory with six goals.
Jack Guy kicked three goals also to help the Tigers get over the line.
Harry Kuchel, James Hinge and Daniel Burgess were Mundulla’s best players.
Zac Peake tried his hardest to give Naracoorte a consistent avenue to goal with three goals.
Nathan Davey, Mitch Pulmer and Josh Gregg were the Demons’ best players.
Keith moved back inside the top three with a victory over Kybybolite by 53 points. The Crows shrugged off a Tigers outfit that could not kick straight in the first half. Keith made Kybybolite pay in the second half by kicking 12 goals to 5 and getting the victory they were searching for.
Blake Read put on a show for the Crows with a haul of five goals.
Blake Read, Aydon Innes and Daniel Bibby were the Crows’ best players.
William Shepherd was the only Tigers player to kick multiple goals as he put through two goals for the afternoon.
Sean Munn, Alexander McKenzie and Brad Castine were the Tigers’ best players.
Border Districts continued their charge towards staying on top of the ladder for the finals with a big 164-point victory over Lucindale. The Eagles opened the game up in the second quarter and never looked back.
Mackenzie Bower had a day out with six goals in the victory.
Luke Nicholas, Zac Richards and Mark Quinn were the Eagles’ best players.
Lucindale struggled all game to kick goals as they could only manage three for the game.
Bradley Agnew, Cody Clarke and Will Graetz were the Roos’ best players.
Kingston got back on the winner’s list after defeating Padthaway by 41 points. The Saints had lost their past three games and needed to find some form before the finals begin.
Jack Harding, Ethan Murdock, Ben Warner and William Wiseman kicked two goals each in the victory.
Jack Armfield, Orestis Gambranis and Ben Warner were Kingston’s best players in the victory.
Padthaway could only find one multiple-goal kicker for the game with Tobin Cox kicking two goals.
Mitchell Minns, Thomas Edwards and Will Rivers were the Lions’ best players.
Bordertown won their second tight game in a row when they defeated Penola by six points. The Roosters had a big third quarter to take control of the game after trailing at halftime.
Bordertown had a big third quarter before holding off a Penola comeback in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Thomas Whittlesea kicked three goals in the victory.
Tyson Hoffmann, Thomas Whittlesea and Harrison Fromm were the best players.
Drew Clayfield and Bradley Merrett kicked three goals each for Penola in a fighting effort.
Jayden Eldridge, Bradley Bryant and Jordan Galpin were Penola’s best players.
Round 16 this week and the placings for finals positions are still up in the air. Border Districts are currently top and play Naracoorte who are 4th.
Both sides need a win to set themselves up for a good position when the finals come around.
Naracoorte still has hopes of a top-three finish.
Naracoorte needs to win and hope Kingston beat Keith so the Demons can get the double chance.
The Eagles look like they are determined to finish top and look to be far too strong for Naracoorte.
Keith travels to Kingston looking to seal a top three spot on the ladder. The Crows know they can get a top-three spot even if they lose, but they will be wanting to enter the finals in winning form.
The Saints are just looking to be healthy when the finals start.
Kingston has been battling and trying to have their best team on the ground when the finals start next week.
Kingston will be confident they can carry their form from the weekend into this game and come away with a win at home.
The Crows will start favourite but it should be a close contest.
Mundulla will be a heavy favourite when they face Kybybolite at home on Saturday.
In the Battle of the Tiger, Mundulla looks like they will be too strong across each line and although the last time they met the game was close.
I expect Mundulla to win more comfortably this time as Mundulla hope to finish on top of the ladder.
Lucindale host Penola and this is a great chance for both teams to finish the season on a high note.
Lucindale has been struggling to stay competitive in the second half of the season and will be determined to give this game a crack and see if they can get a win.
The Eagles will go in as red-hot favourites as they have been playing some good football recently.
I think the game will be tight before Penola sneak home in a tight one.
Padthaway is at home against Bordertown and the Roosters will be the favourite to get the road victory.
Bordertown has a chance to springboard into next season on the back of a win in this game and a good run of form.
Their close losses this season are the only difference in them not challenging for finals.
The Lions on the other hand have had a competitive season and with Daniel Menzel in charge for next year they will look to get a win in this game and start to plan out the off-season.
Padthaway has the firepower to get a win in this game but Bordertown might be a bit too strong for the Lions.
