Pub launch pulls crowd

The Tiger Hotel at Tantanoola literally roared back to life on Saturday when its doors reopened for trading after a seventh-month hiatus.

Adelaide couple Shaun and Bec Day are the new publicans and the townsfolk gave them their whole-hearted support.

The front bar, dining room and outdoor areas were busy throughout the day and well into the night.

Among the patrons were Day family members, other well-wishes and off-duty workers from nearby plants.

All were glad to see the Tiger back in business as it has been a part of Tantanoola since 1879.

Mr Lane also founded the Beachport Hotel, Millicent’s Somerset Hotel and the long-closed Wave Queen Hotel at Southend.

Ms Day said she was thrilled with the response.

“We had 300 sausages to give away and they were all gone by 2pm,” she said.

“Our dining room has 60 places and it was completely booked out.

“I had a further 30 inquiries for dinner which I had to turn away.”
