Police suspect a late-night blaze on Wednesday in a Furner pine plantation may have been the work of a firebug.
Police officers and CFS crews from the Argyle and Furner Brigades were called to an area on Furner Road, Furner at 10.05pm after reports of a pile of pine wood on fire.
Fire crews promptly extinguished the blaze and specialist police crime scene examiners were at the site the following day to check for evidence of arson.
“We suspect the blaze may have been deliberately lit,” said a police spokesman.
“Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
