The Limestone Coast is well represented in the AFL with plenty of home-grown players starring on the national stage.
The SE Voice’s sports journo Will Boston takes a look at how our locals fared in Round 13.
Jordan Dawson
Jordan Dawson and the Crows fell short to the Tigers on Thursday night, however the captain still found a way to have an impactful game, finishing with 32 disposals, five marks, eight tackles and four clearances.
Dawson once again made an impact on the team’s scoring as he had two goal assists and nine score involvements.
The Robian was also solid in the marking contest as he had a contested mark and two intercept marks.
This week the Crows face another tough opponent as they host the Swans on Saturday night.
Mitch Hinge
Mitch Hinge had a bit of a quiet game on Thursday despite having 22 disposals, two marks and 13 kicks.
He was solid at being involved with the scoring as he had a goal assist, six score involvements and two score launches.
This week Hinge will have a tough match up in the backline as he takes on the Swans on Saturday night.
Darcy Fogarty
Darcy Fogarty had a pretty good game for the Crows despite the end result, notching up 14 disposals, eight marks and three goals on Thursday night.
Although the Fog kicked three goals he could have had more as he had six shots at goal with two behinds.
He was still involved with the team’s scoring as he had seven score involvements.
Fogarty inserted himself as the main man in the Crows forward line in this game as he had four marks inside 50.
After a rocky start Fogarty has started to find some great form as he has kicked a goal in his last eight games and two or more goals in his last six.
This week Fogarty will have to get off to a big start if the Crows want to upset the Swans at home.
Lachie Neale
Lachie Neale had a huge game on Friday night against the Doggies.
The co-captain had 38 disposals, six marks, 10 clearances and two goals in the win.
Neale was very efficient with the footy as he finished with a 84.2% disposal efficiency and was breaking open the game all over the field as six of his clearances were from stoppages and four were from the centre.
Tomorrow night Neale and the Lions should have a good match-up against the Saints at the Gabba.
Toby Pink
Toby Pink and the Roos headed west on the weekend and picked up their first win of the season.
Pink had nine disposals, three marks, six kicks and a clearance in the win.
Defensively Pink was solid as he had three spoils and 10 pressure acts.
This week the Roos have a tough game against the Pies at Marvel on Sunday afternoon.
Rowan Marshall
Rowan Marshall had a solid game against the Suns on Saturday night.
Marshall finished with 19 disposals, five marks, seven clearances and 24 hit outs in the win.
In the air Marshall was great as he had two contested marks as well as two intercept marks.
Tomorrow night the Saints have a tough game against the Lions at the Gabba.
Jeremy Cameron
Jeremy Cameron had a solid game in the Cats’ tough loss to the Swans, registering 21 disposals, eight marks, 11 kicks and two goals.
Jezza did not have the best goal kicking performance as he had four shots at goal, but he did have six score involvements which is also pretty solid.
This week Cameron and the Cats will be able to rest up with the bye as they prepare for a tough game against the Blues in round 15.
Brad Close
Brad Close had a bit of a quiet game against the Swans, finishing with nine disposals, four tackles, two marks and a goal.
Close was once again great at assisting his teammates with scoring as he had two goal assists and six score involvements. While his solid season continues, Close will be able to rest up this week with the bye before the Cats’ important game against the Blues.
Tom McDonald
On Monday Tom McDonald had a solid game against the Pies in the Big Freeze at the G game.
McDonald had 12 disposals, three marks and 11 kicks.
Two of his marks were interceptions which has been a strong part of McDonald’s game this season.
He was also great in the marking contests with eight spoils and was once again a key player in the Dees backline at moving the footy as he had five rebound 50s.
This week McDonald and the Dees have the bye before they face the Roos a week later.
