Gordie shores up veterans win

Afield of 53 South East veteran golfers went to Robe on a lovely fine but crisp winter’s day for a day of competition.

Surprisingly the best score was 35 from local Gordie Fleming in Division 1 from Mount Gambier’s Grant Stephenson 33 on countback from Robe’s Max Skeen.

Division 2 also went to the locals with Gordon Wynn taking the win with 33 from Chris Fry on 31, and Millicent’s Glen Tilley 30.

The Ross Orchard trophy went to the familiar faces of Wayne Dunford and Alex Juokoff both from Blue Lake.

The nearest the pins were Glen Tilley, Greg Cook, Bill Mullan and Bryan Coe and the ball rundown was to 26+.

Wally Altschwager took home the Scotch.

Three new members also joined the outing, Chris Fry and Terry Rivett from Robe and Dion Sippel from Bordertown.

The group’s next game is at Blue Lake on August 12 followed by Mount Gambier on August 26.
