Performers have hit the stage for the Speech and Drama division of the Mount Gambier Eisteddfod.
Entrants aged from five to 65 put their best foot forward on the stage at the Wehl Street Theatre.
The competitors displayed their skills in drama, poetry, prose, debating and improvisation, making parents and friends proud.
Returning to the eisteddfod was adjudicator and ex-local Merry Dickins who now resides in New South Wales.
“The eisteddfod is always the highlight of the calendar,” Mrs Dickins said.
“This year there have been some fabulous performances from Melaleuca and Glenburnie primary schools.
“It’s great to see these students develop over their years with their stage performances. Their skills grow each year as they learn to confidently enter and exit the stage, choose appropriate pieces for an audience, speak slower and more clearly and to offer eye-contact with their audience.”
Mrs Dickins said the open section welcomed many new faces with some outstanding performances from Under Milkwood, Shakespeare and Monty Python featured, as were some original pieces from local emerging playwrights and poets.
“Competitors from Limestone Coast Home Schoolers performed at a very high standard with creative ad original pieces,” she said.
The winner of the Lakes Rotary Blue Lake Fun Run Scholarship was Maya Boyington who also took out the Stan Elliot Memorial award for most outstanding competitor sponsored by the Lions Club of Mount Gambier.
