Hosts take opening round honours

Round 1 of LSEBA Midweek Pennants kicked off on Wednesday with Mount Gambier Bowls Club Red team welcome Robe to the Bob Cranwell Centre.


The team of Maryka Heaver, Richard Souter, Brayn Vorwerk and Ian Von Stanke had a tight game against the team led by Peter Roachock with both teams on 23 shots each at the end of the game.


The rink of Neil Blakey, Beryl Messenger, Kym Jones and Jeff England did battle with rink skippered by David Robinson and it was the Mount Gambier team that took the honours on the day winning 29 shots to 15 shots.


Mount Gambier Red winning the day 52 shots to 38 Shots.


Mount Gambier Blue welcomed the Red Port MacDonnell team.


The rink of Ian Boultwood, Barb Milstead, Jane Calleja and Jim Farran took on the rink skippered by Keith Dowdell and it was the Bay team winning 42 shots to 12 shots.


The team of Pauline Boultwood, Dianna Farranfield, Ray Hutchesson and Ron Cox did battel with the team led by Heather Richards.


In a thrilling game it was the Mount Gambier team winning the day 24 shots to 23 shots.


The Bay team winning the day 65 shots to 36 shots.


Round 2 of Saturday Open Pennants saw Division 1 heading up the highway to take on Millicent Bowls Club.


The rink of Kym Jone, Kristy Errock Garry Hocking and Jeff England took on the rink Skippered by Wayne Ross and after 25 ends England’s rink went down 11 shots to 29.


The rink of John Reppin, Jason Kuring Peter Reppin and Tony Bowditch took on the team skippered by Glen Jones with the Mount Gambier team winning the last end to take out the win by one shot, 28 shots to Millicent’s 27 shots


The team of Neil Blakey, Paul Arnup, Tony Renzi and Greg Carpenter battled it out with team skippered by Strawb masters and after the 25th end Carpenters rink ended up in front 24 Shots to the Millicent teams 21 shots.


Millicent winning the day 77 shots to 63 shots.


Mount Gambier Division 2 welcomed the Robe Bowls Club.


The rink of Maryka Heaver, Daryl Ranenberg, Matthew Thiele and Ian Von Stanke had a tight tussle with the Robe team skippered by Adrian Bermingham.


It was the Robe team winning the rink 27 shots to 24 shots.


The rink of Garry Widdison, Michael Ashby, Michael Spong and Bryan Vorwerk took on the Robe team led by Alastair Douglas, with Mount Gambier winning the day 36 shots to 10 shots.


The team of Dougal McPhail, Beryl Messenger, William Bremner, and Perrier Davis put in a strong performance against the Robe team skippered by Barry Bennett and it was the Mount Gambier team winning 34 shots to 13 shots.


Mount Gambier winning overall 94 shots to 50 shots.


Division 3 Red was home to Millicent Red. 


The team of Milton Chant, Jim Butchart, Ray Hutchenson and Ron Cox had a close battle with the team skippered by Peter Dunnicliff.


It was the home team winning by 1 shot on the last end, taking the match 26 shots to 25 shots.


The team of Barb Milstead, Beryl Versluis, Steven Smith and James Farran battled it out with the Millicent team led by Terry Lonergan.


The Mount Gambier team in front on the 25th end 32 shots to 26 shots.


Marcus Sheather, John Hughes, Margaret Marshall and Glen Brown put in a strong day against the Millicent team skippered by John Drew winning 29 shots to the Millicent team 17 shots.


Mount Gambier Division 3 Blue travelled to Millicent Bowls Club with the rink of Paul Gibbs, Nicola Bowditch, Kale Calleja and Steven Praetz taking on the team led by Derrick Lindh and after the 25 end it was the Mount Gambier team taking out the honours 31 to 15 shots.


The Blue team of Pauline Boultwood, Glen McCallum, Athol Malse and Jane Calleja, took on the Millicent team led by Arthur O’Connell.


It was the Millicent team in front at the end of the day winning 32 shots to 14 shots.


Norm Foote, Ian Boltwood, Howard Jacobs and Alwin Goetze took on the Millicent team and it was the Mount Gambier team putting in a strong performance winning the rink 29 shots to 12 shots.


Mount Gambier Blue winning the day 74 shots to 59 shots.
