Victorious Western Border Coach Justin Munro’s selection and management of his on-ball rotations came to the fore in the second half.
This allowed his experienced midfield prime movers and “shakers” including Clint Gallio, Nick McInerney and Jacob Carger to instigate repeat forward thrusts placing the overworked Mid SE defence under constant pressure.
This, coupled with the WBFL’s overall superior disposal skills particularly out of the back-line and away from stoppages, were major factors in the final result.
In selecting the three best on-ground combatants, North Gambier’s Nick McInerney was the stand-out three-vote performer.
Kalangadoo’s Mitch Lowe displayed poise and accurate ball usage in the clinches making him my second choice.
While there were many candidates for the one vote, East Gambier co-coach, Matt Willson, provided a creative and reliable pathway forward via the scoreboard wing.
Kongorong Hawk, Harrison Evans, soared high to snatch the mark of the day in front of the packed supporters’ shed, whilst Millicent’s Frazer Bradley’s solo running goal in the second quarter when the Mid SE threatened to take control lifted his team mates.
While East Gambier’s commitment to the game provided seven players, Casterton/ Sandford’s late inclusion, Diarmid Cleary, grabbed his opportunity to be a valuable contributor in his first win for the season.
Although the Mid SE is known as the family league, WBFL’s Colby Munro slotted three goals at crucial stages to no doubt cap-off a satisfying outing for his father and Coach, Justin.
