Ag-tech advances highlighted

Sheep farmers will be able to access the latest in agricultural advances at a local Sheep Technology Expo to be on November 11.

The event will be held at Penola’s Rymill Hall from 8.30am and is hosted by Australian Wool Innovation and SheepConnect SA with support from the Red Meat and Wool Growth Program.

There will be more than 30 trade displays from across Australia, ranging from eID equipment to water technology.

SheepConnect SA program manager Dr Jodie Reseigh said there had been interest from farmers as well as traders.

“The South East is an important area of the state for sheep and wool production, producers have a keen interest in adoption of technology and Penola is a good central location for the producers from South East and western Victoria,” she said.

“Technology has huge benefits for producers including improved productivity and profitability, enhanced biosecurity, labour efficiencies, improved health and safety of farm workers.

“We encourage the use of technology by wool and sheep meat producers.

Dr Reseigh said with the rapid advancements in technology, the expo’s were important for producers gain first-hand experience with the latest agtech, talk to experts and determine if products are suitable for their properties.

“The technology on show is quite diverse, right from sheep handlers through to water telemetry and equipment and tags for eID, there is a whole range of technology available to assist producers.”

There will be presentations covering a range of topics including improving business performance and the role of Agtech by Chris Scheid from ProAdvice and eID adoption and using the data by Nathan Scott from Achieve Ag Solutions.

Kondinin Group’s Ben White and SA Police Superintendent Campbell Hill will speak on farm security while animal health tech will be discussed by Dr Colin Trengove of Pro Ag Consulting.
