Aged care facility access restricted

Aged care facility access restricted

Further COVID-related access restrictions will apply across South Australian aged care facilities from the eve of the festive season.

The new State Government directions will take effect next month and impact access for visitors, contractors, delivery people and members of the general public.

Effective from December 6, no person may enter an aged care home in SA unless that person has been fully vaccinated against COVID.

Vaccination is defined as having received two doses of an appropriate vaccine.

Aged care staff and volunteers are already fully vaccinated.

Boneham Aged Care Services chief executive Michael Filsell said the new direction would have an impact on his Millicent facility which has 255 residents and staff.

“This means that visiting family members, trades people, contractors and delivery staff must have received two doses of a COVID vaccination by December 5 if they wish to enter the Boneham site,” Mr Filsell said.

“The only exceptions to this requirement are children aged 12 and under and those with a valid medical exemption registered on the national immunisation register.

“We understand that this may cause inconvenience for some people who regularly visit Boneham and our residents.

“As this is a legally enforceable direction under State Government emergency regulations, we are obliged to ensure compliance is managed.”
