The high-octane action keeps coming to Borderline Speedway with a major event hitting the dirt for the second successive weekend.
The main attraction this Saturday night will be the Mainline DynoLog Dynamometers All Stars 360 Sprintcars Series which brings 19 big name drivers to town chasing glory in the penultimate round of the championship.
After eight rounds Brad Warren leads the charge with a slender 17-point lead over Jordyn Charge, but with 475 points up for grabs, the likes of Paul Solomon, Charles Hunter and Brett Smith are also in championship contention.
Drivers will be ready to hit the “Bullring” with a full head of steam, just one week after a big round at Mildura.
Steve Caruso converted his pole position into victory, but not without some luck after Lisa Walker hit a rut when she looked set to steal the accolades.
Once the dramatic race was completed, Steve Caruso led home his brother Mark in a one-two finish that will be talked about at Christmas dinners for years to come, while Todd Moule joined them on the podium.
The race featured 2020 and 21 Bathurst 1000 podium finisher Cam Waters, but the Tickford Racing star suffered a bruising night tagging the turn two wall.
Waters has been a regular in the series, but will miss the trip to the Blue Lake city as he thunders his Monster Energy Ford Mustang around Sydney Motorsport Park in the opening round of the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship.
But locals can look forward to seeing their own star, Scott Enderl put on a show as he drives the #S11 for the first time in the All Star series.
Another car worth watching will be the #S4 of Lisa Walker.
In her first appearance in the 360 All Stars, Walker stole the show and looked on course for a stunning victory, only to hit a rut and get relegated to the back of the field.
Despite the misfortune, she fought hard and soared through the pack to salvage a respectable eighth by the chequered flag.
Walker is based out of Port Noarlunga, but has many Limestone Coast connections including a number of sponsors from Mount Gambier and surrounds.
She has always enjoyed racing at Borderline and hopes to harness the momentum from the promising event at Mildura.
“I am really looking forward to it because Borderline is one of my favourite tracks,” Walker said.
“I am not sure if it suits me, but I do love racing on a little “Bullring” track where it is always close and fast.
“They do a great job with the track conditions, so it is always a pleasure to race there being lucky enough to have some support in the South East.
“I enjoy driving at Mildura being wide and open with a lot of banking and we started on the front row, but I was just unable to put it all together and was unlucky to hit a rut.
“I probably took the line a bit lower that lap, but I honestly did not even know it was there.
“We managed to get it back to eighth, so we had some good pace, so hopefully we can just carry it through.”
Walker kicked off her racing career aged nine in Dirt Karts racing all over the country winning 17 state, territory and national titles.
Her career took off when an opportunity to race sprintcars arose and she has been able to setup her own team since.
But after the best part of two decades in the sport Walker is taking on a new challenge strapping in a 360 for the first time in many years.
In a season which is highlighted by making the A Main at the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, the fan favourite said transferring her skills to the new class had not been easy.
“I have not raced a 360 in about five years, so it may take a little bit to find our feet in terms of car setup,” she said.
“It is basically just different gearing and the car is a lot heavier (than a 410) so we just have to set the car up differently to counteract the weight to slow everything down and find what is comfortable.”
The other major event taking place at Borderline this weekend will be the fight for the South Australian Modlite title.
Current Australia #1 Sam Gollschewsky will be in the house racing at Borderline for the first time.
The Brisbane based driver will be determined to emerge victorious in a battle with fellow Queenslander and current SA and Vic title Holder Terry Leerentveld.
Modlites are specially built speedway racecars with 1000cc Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda and Yamaha motorbike engines.
All cars originated prominently from the USA, but some Australian manufactures also create competitive racing.
The category is one of the newest editions to the speedway fraternity and has progressed rapidly across Australia.
It promises to be a fast, furious and fiercely contested spectacle of racing from the drop of the green flag.
