Allstar sprintcars put on a show

There was racing aplenty at Borderline Speedway on Saturday night with round seven of the Australian Allstar Sprintcars along with the South Australian Modlite title and round two of the rescheduled Ti Bills wingless series.

With 28 sprintcars, 19 Modlites and 39 wingless sprints there was plenty to keep the crowd entertained.

This time Mother Nature played her part in allowing fine weather at the speedway and it was all systems go as the clock hit 5pm.

Out first were the Modlites with their hot lap session and track time to find the right line to run for the rest of their heats and finals and it was Ryan Alexander who set the fastest time.

Next up were the 360 Allstar Sprintcars for their time trial which seeded them in their positions for heat racing to come and it was a tight contest between Chad Ely, Ben Morris and Paul Soloman.

These three went to the wire with Ely claiming the honours by a 100th of a second over Morris and Soloman.

Out next to tackling the mighty bullring were the wingless sprints for their time trials for some incredible laps on a hooked-up track.

Out of the 39 cars it was a quick time recorded to Keke Falland who was doing double duties with his wingless and sprintcar, second was local Mitchell Broome and another driver doing the double duty role in Soloman.

As the sun was setting in the west and the lights came on, racing was on with the Modlites taking to the clay for their first heat and it was Alexander who set the pace right from the drop of the green flag.

Alexander did not put a foot wrong all night and it was only in one heat race he came home in second place but that did not hurt his final points come A-Main time.

For Alexander, the only real challenger was the Aus 1 Queenslander Rodney Pammenter who started on pole with Alexander on his outside.

As they formed up Pammenter got off to a great start, finding his line and position on the track with Alexander trailing him for many laps, including during an ontrack incident which stopped the flow.

Both Alexander and Pammenter battled many laps and it was a slight misjudgment from Pammenter that allowed Alexander to take the lead and from there he was not challenged, taking the win.

The main event for the night was the Allstar 360, with the drivers taking to the Borderline track for the first time in three years.

The six heats featured plenty of epic slides, with drivers moving up to run the fence and find some different lines.

The B-Main race was a solid hit out from the 13 cars that did not get enough points to get straight into the A-Main.

It was hard and tough but it was Zac Farrer, Kane Newcombe, Steven Loader and Jeremy Kupsch who filled the last four positions to the feature A-Main.

Series leader Mark Caruso claimed the pole, with Brendan Quinn on the outside, followed by Angus Hollis and Todd Moule.

As the green flagged dropped it was Caruso that took the first corner from Quinn and Hollis and this was the line before an incident on corner two claimed four cars.

The officials opted for a full restart, requiring the drivers to again form up.

As they took the green flag for a second time it was the same three who went to the first corner and stayed in that formation for several laps.

But with the laps counting down Quinn pulled infield which allowed Moule to take a further position forward.

Moule was gunning for the lead and took it right up to the leader and overtook him on corner three and never looked back.

Brentan Farrer came from ninth to unsuccessfully challenge Moule, who took the flag from Farrer and Ben Morris.

It was also a good night for local Scott Enderl who finished in the top five with a standout drive on his home track.

As the A-Main rolled out onto the track for the last feature race for the night a heavy fog settled over the track and officials made the call to cancel the race due to safety.
