Annual toy run launched

The countdown is on to this year’s Limestone Coast Toy Run, to be held on November 28.

In a year that has been challenging for everyone, the joy and relief the Toy Run brings to families doing it tough will be all the more vital come Christmas, according to Baptist Care SA Regional Manager John Merrett.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, families have been affected economically as well as socially and emotionally,” he said.

“During difficult times the vulnerable have been affected disproportionately.”

Mr Merrett said, while the Toy Run might look a little different this year, there were still hopes to build on the 500 presents that were gifted to children and young people last year.

“Because of this year’s events there is an even greater need. Our region relies heavily on tourism, agriculture and forestry – all of which have been impacted,” he said.

“Although Baptist Care SA won’t be able to accept toys this year, cash donations are encouraged.

“Gifts will be purchased specifically for each child registered for the Toy Run, to minimise handling and sorting of goods.”
