Appeal support flows

Mount Gambier legal practice ASW Lawyers recently donated $250 to ac.care to show their support for the community.

ASW Lawyers partner John Williamson said the practice was aware of the homeless situation in Mount Gambier and it was becoming evident in the community.

“We thought it was a good cause and wanted to try and do something about it to help and perhaps follow-up a bit later on,” Mr Williamson said.

“It’s got to start somewhere so we were interested in helping out.

“The difficulties that families are experiencing is becoming more and more evident, we’re seeing clients that are coming to our practice that are having difficulties with finance and housing and all sorts of social issues.

“So we sort of see it at the coalface and what is happening and we want to try and help out.

“I guess the main priority is to try and ensure that people are not left out in the cold, it can be pretty miserable if you have not got a warm environment.

“We’re pleased to try and help in some small way.”

ac.care manager of homelessness and community services Trish Spark thanked ASW Lawyers for the donation, which she said ac.care could use for a range of things such as blankets, food, warm clothing, kitchenware and toiletries.

Ms Spark said ac.care had received many donations from both businesses and community members following The SE Voice launching its winter warmth community campaign.

“Just about daily we’re getting donations,” she said.

“We’re really grateful for any donation and it’s always nice to get a cash donation as well because we can then look at what we currently need and what that gets put toward.

“It could help somebody to move into a long-term property, there’s a whole lot of things that it could go towards.”
