NARACOORTE SHEEP – NOVEMBER 24

Lamb numbers eased slightly and sheep made a return at Naracoorte today as agents yarded 27,417 lambs and 4074 sheep to total a combined 31,491 head overall.

These sold to a slightly smaller field of trade and processor buyers with a major supermarket missing as another large field of active restockers added very strong competition to the market.

Restockers moved up in weight this week as a number of these sought lambs from 20 to 22kg to pay up to $168/head for lambs to grow on including an order from Ballarat who sourced a large number.

This pushed the light trade and trade lambs along with these remaining firm in price on last week’s rates while lambs outside of this category fell in price by up to $6/head.

The trade purchases averaged around the 720c/kg cwt with the lighter lambs whilst restocker interest saw sales from 750c to 780c with some sales making to 800c/kg cwt.

Light lambs to the trade sold from $50 to $145 with the lightweight trade 2 and 3 score selection making from $138 to $154/ head.

Restockers sourced lighter weights from $60 to $135 and paid from $147 to $168/head for those with more conditioning.

Trade weight 3 score lambs returned from $148 to $177 as the heavy pens sold from $163 to $198, whilst the few extra heavy weight lambs returned from $192 to the market high of $231/ head.

Hoggets made from $121 to $204/head. Light ewes made from $90 to $124/head whilst medium weight ewes sold from $126 to $156 as the heavy pens were making from $154 to $236/head.

Wethers sold from $163 to $238/head. Rams sold from $80 to a top of $140/head.

MOUNT GAMBIER CATTLE – NOVEMBER 25

Numbers eased a little as agents yarded 1573 head.

These sold to the usual array of trade and processor buyers with feeder and restocker orders present and active across the offering.

Quality was generally good with the highlight being some outstanding vealer calves as the market sold from firm to a slightly easier trend.

Vealer steers to the trade held firm in price with these making from 413c to 460c with similar heifers selling from 383c to 451c/kg.

Feeder orders sourced steers from 413c to 429c and heifers from 382c to 388c while restockers were active on steers which sold from 430c to 442c/kg.

Yearling steers to the trade were small in number, easing up to 4c as they made from 358c to 393c whilst the heifer equivalents sold from 345c to 384c/kg.

Feeder orders were active on yearling steers making from 374c to 433c whilst the heifers sold from 374c to 388c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks eased by 4c to 8c as they sold from 323c to 395c to the trade, whilst feeders saw sales from 352c to 421c/kg.

Grown heifers made from 301c to 389c to the trade as feeder buyers purchased from 316c to 387c as manufacturing steers made from 270c to 325c/kg.

Heavy cows held firm as they sold from 280c to 323c to the trade as the lighter types were making from 210c to 272c with restocker activity to a top of 270c and feeders purchased to 286c/kg. Bulls sold from 260c to 315c/kg.

MOUNT GAMBIER SHEEP – NOVEMBER 25

Numbers eased slightly as agents yarded 10,021 lambs and 568 sheep to total 10,589 head overall.

These sold to the usual array of trade and processor buyers with a small group of active restockers present in the market.

Quality was generally good as agents presented a large number of heavy lambs with great weights and freshness in the skin however demand from the buying group was not as strong as the previous week as the market sold to mainly softer trends.

Light lambs to the trade sold from $112 to $143 with the light weight 2 and 3 score trade types selling from $140 to $150/head.

Restockers turned light lambs back out from $48 to $134, whilst those with more conditioning sold from $142 to $158/head.

Trade weight 3 score lambs made from $146 to $171 to range from firm to $3/head easier.

Heavy lambs sold from $164 to $190 to be $4/head softer in price as most lambs returned vendors from 720c to 750c/kg cwt.

The extra heavy export weighted selection sold from $189 to a market high of $232/ head.

Hoggets sold from $170 to $195/head.

Light ewes made from $120 to $138/head.

Heavy ewes made from $150 to a high of $244/head to the trade.

A line of 4 1/2 year old composite ewes with a full skin were returned to the paddock from $175 to $214/head.

Wethers sold to $194 whilst Rams sold to a top of $80/head.

NARACOORTE CATTLE – NOVEMBER 24

Numbers rose slightly as agents yarded 1608 head of liveweight and open auction cattle.

These sold to the usual array of trade and processor buyers along with feeder and restocker orders.

Quality was generally good across the offering as the market sold to easier rates this week.

Vealers eased 10c to 15c as steers to the trade ranged from 425c to 440c, with similar heifers returning from 395c to 432c/kg.

Feeders sought steers from 378c to 439c and heifers from 395c to 426c/kg.

Restockers turned steers back to paddock from 440c to 445c/kg.

Yearling steers to the trade made from 385c to 430c, with the heifer portion ranging from 313c to 405c/kg.

Feeder steers sold from 384c to 427c, with the feeder heifers ranging from 336c to 420c, as restockers sourced steers from 367c to 400c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks lost up to 20c as they ranged from 338c to 385c to the trade, with feeder activity from 358c to 399c/kg.

Grown heifers returned from 300c to 390c to the trade, with feeder active here from 330c to also 390c/kg.
