NARACOORTE CATTLE – JANUARY 12

Numbers rose as agents yarded 961 head. These sold to a larger field of trade and processor buyers, however only the regulars were active along with feeder orders and there was an increase in restocker support.

Quality was generally good with this being helped along with some pens of cattle coming off grain with the majority of the market selling to slightly easier rates following the extremes of last week as cows bucked this trend to improve in price.

Vealer numbers were low with steers reaching 441c to a restocker as heifers made a high of 450c/kg to the trade. Yearling steers to the trade sold from 388c to 452c with similar heifers making from 355c to 433c/kg.

Feeders sought steers from 397c to 455c and heifers from 374c to 390c/ kg. Restockers turned steers back out from 448c to 464c and heifers from 381c to 410c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks to the trade made from 370c to 410c with feeder activity making from 384c to 405c/kg. Grown heifers to the trade sold from 348c to 410c with feeder support also to a top of 410c as manufacturing steers sold from 302c to 314c/kg.

Heavy cows lifted 10c to 15c as they made from 292c to 315c as the lighter types selling from 240c to 270c with feeder activity making from 283c to 319c/kg. Heavy bulls sold from 260c to 275c with light weights to feed peaking at 339c/kg.

MOUNT GAMBIER CATTLE – JANUARY 13

Numbers rose sharply as agents produced a very good offering of 1802 head. These sold to a larger field of trade and processor buyers with both feeders and restockers present and active.

Quality was excellent with weight and condition spread over nearly every pen as the market sold to mainly dearer rates. Vealer steers to the trade made from 425c to 460c with similar heifers returning from 423c also to 460c/kg.

Feeder orders were strong here as they sourced steers from 425c to 448c and heifers from 423c to 435c/kg. Restockers turned steers back out from 430c to 462c/kg.

Yearling steers jumped 9c as they made from 388c to 415c to the trade with feeders active from 374c to 430c/ kg. Yearling heifers to the trade sold from 366c to 415c with feeder support from 362c to 428c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks were also of great weight and condition however these bucked the dearer trend to range from firm to slightly easier as they made from 355c to 412c to the trade as feeders sourced lighter weights from 370c to 430c/kg.

Grown heifers sold from 355c to 404c with feeder activity from 375c to 405c as manufacturing steers sold from 294c to 338c/kg. Heavy cows rose 10c to 15c as they sold from 280c to 320c with the lighter types making from 220c to 282c/kg. Heavy bulls sold from 245c to 314c with light weights making to a top of 350c/kg.

MOUNT GAMBIER SHEEP – JANUARY 13

Numbers eased slightly as agents yarded 5407 lambs and 424 sheep to total 5831 head overall. These sold to the usual field of trade and processor buyers with a number of active restockers also participating in the market.

Quality improved on the week before with more conditioning throughout the offering as lamb pricing took a small fall of $3 to $5/head.

Light lambs were small in number as these sold from $143 to $160 to the trade as restockers competed strongly here to take lambs back home from $128 to $161/head.

Trade weight 3 score lambs made from $158 to $185/head with most lambs sales selling from 770c to 820c/ kg cwt. Heavy lambs made from $180 to $220 as the extra heavy pens returned vendors from $210 to the market high of $260/head.

Hoggets sold from $130 to $190/ head. The light sheep made from $120 to $140/head. Heavy sheep sold from $150 to $170 with wethers also making to $170/ head. Rams sold up to $90/head.

NARACOORTE SHEEP – JANUARY 12

Numbers lifted as agents yarded 9674 lambs and 1819 sheep to total 11,493 head overall. These sold to the usual array of trade and processor buyers with a number of active restockers also present.

Quality was very good as agents presented an excellent run of heavy and extra heavy lambs with outstanding quality pen after pen. However the buying group pulled rates back on the previous sale with both sheep and lambs easing in price with the heavy end of the lamb market falling $15 to $20/head.

Light lambs to the trade made from $93 to $151 with the light weight trade 2 and 3 score selection selling from $146 to $160/head. Restockers turned a range of weights back out from $70 to $155/ head.

Trade weight 3 score lambs sold from $148 to $190/head to return from 800c to 830c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs sold from $170 to $221 as the extra heavy pens made from $208 to the market high of $250/head.

Hoggets sold from $140 to $195/ head. Light sheep returned from $88 to $112/head. Medium weighted sheep sold from $118 to $146 to be $10 easier while the heavy types were selling from $150 to $215 to be $15 to $20/head cheaper then last week.

Light wethers sold from $100 to $112 with the heavier pens making from $172 to $193/head. Rams sold from $90 to $180/head.
