Art projected through City Council initiative

Local artists, not-for-profit organisations and community groups can now apply for the 2022/2023 Creative Arts Fund to support the delivery of inspiring, creative and contemporary projects.

Mount Gambier City Council’s Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre manager Diana Warnes said council was committed to working with local artists to ensure individuals and collectives can continue to grow and create ambitious new work.

“Applicants should remember that while developing new work is pivotal, the outcome – where and how the work may be experienced – is just as vital,” Ms Warnes said.

Applications for funding should be for projects with a minimum total project cost of $3000.

Ms Warnes said an allocation of $50,000 had been made in council’s 2022/2023 budget for distribution in this annual program.

“Projects may focus on but are not limited to, performing and visual arts, literature, film, design, multimedia, history and heritage, festivals, performances and public celebrations,” she said.

Previous recipient Henry Wolff was able to develop and create ‘Lachrymal’, a multi-channel moving image, with the assistance of the 2021/2022 Creative Arts Fund.

Enjoyed not only locally but on a national stage, ‘Lachrymal’ debuted at the Gertrude Street Projection Festival in Melbourne and will be presented in Mount Gambier on the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre exteriors from Wednesday, September 7.
