Art show attracts broad range of creative talent

Entries are now open for the seventh annual Wattle Range Art Show which carries a first prize of $4000.

The overall winner as well as the prize winners in various categories will be announced at the opening at the Millicent Galley at 6.30pm on November 24.

The competition has grown in stature since the first exhibition in 2015.

Over 180 entries were received from artists as far afield as Canberra, Western Victoria, and Limestone Coast through to Adelaide.

The quality and variety of the work was outstanding with the inaugural exhibition capturing the taste and interest of most people.

With portraiture to landscape, industrial to textiles, found objects to ceramics and abstract to traditional there was something to suit all tastes.

Over 2000 people including many groups from throughout the Limestone Coast and Western Victoria visited the Millicent Gallery.

The first Wattle Range Art Show represented an exciting mix of artists, many of whom have successfully exhibited in other exhibitions, artists and craftsperson’s who were mentored by the late Barbara Wallace through to the emerging artist exhibiting for the first time.

The path to establish an art gallery for the community, to provide access and enable participation in the arts, and provide a cultural focus was only made possible by the commitment and drive of a group of volunteers and community members led by the dedicated and imitable Barbara Wallace.

Other artists, volunteers, and community members who have supported the Millicent Gallery also deserve thanks as they ensured it has played a key role within the arts scene.

Barbara a talented craftsperson is remembered for her inspiration, and tireless encouragement to all involved in the arts.
