Association action rises

The competition last weekend was played in a mixture of conditions with sunshine and rain greeting players in the Mount Gambier Netball Association competition.

The junior match of the week was between Hobitz and Saints, with both teams competing well in the opening quarter with strong offensive and defensive outfits.

Saints held the lead by a single goal at the end of the quarter, but Hobitz stepped up in the second term to lead 21-11 at half-time.

Tayla Doody scored 11 goals in the second quarter in her position of Goal Attack alongside Abbey Knowles who was a key component to the success of the Hobitz team’s first half, which she continued into the second half of the game.

Hobitz continued their success into the game, leading 35-20 at the final break as Saints continued to put up a fight.

However, the side could not keep up with the pace of Hobitz, with Saints going down 42-29.

The senior match of the week was between the A2 side of Vicis Red and Zodiacs.

Much like the previous game, Vicis Red only lead by a goal at the end of the first quarter.

Sonia Morris was helpful for her Zodiacs side in wing defence and goal attack, including one epic throw from the Vicis third to the start of the Zodiacs third that had onlookers in awe.

Karen Lock was not only a stand-out player the Vicis Red, but a stand-out shooter as well.

Lock shot 11 goals in the second quarter, missing only six and then followed up with 14 goals in the final quarter for a total of 36 goals to her name for the match.

Both sides were always on their toes with stand-out defence from Vicis Red goal keeper, Diana Bradbury.

Vicis Red secured the win 57-37, in a game full of action.
