Two up and coming athletes from Penola have just competed at the National Track and Field championships in Launceston, Tasmania.
Eleven-year-old Sophie Pearce was selected in the under 12 team for the 100m, 200m and relay.
It was the second time Sophie has been selected in the under 12 state team in the same events, having previously competed in Brisbane.
She has also represented the Penola Little Athletics club at the state individual championships.
Sophie qualified for the national event with her times at SAPSASA athletics in Adelaide.
The youngster trained twice a week in Mount Gambier and most Saturdays in Adelaide.
In Launceston Sophie ran a personal best in the 200m, just missing out on the final, and she was the best SA runner in that event.
She ran well in the 100m event against some tough competition and her team came fourth in the relay.
Ebony Reeves, also aged 11, competed in the shot put and discus.
She was selected in the state team after excellent results at the Adelaide track and field country day championships.
She finished first in the discus and second in the shot put.
In Launceston she did not place in her events but was thrilled with a personal best in shot put.
