Athletes put through paces

Mount Gambier Little Athletics enjoyed another successful Friday night meet in perfect conditions for competing.

The night got under way with the Tiny Tots enjoying some fun activities with coach Sally Taylor.

The under 8 girls had a fantastic night competing in the discus, 70m sprint, long jump and 200m.

Keziah Poynter starred with a big throw of 8.13m in her discus.

Keziah and Evie Cole also had a great race in the 70m sprint with just a second separating the pair through the finish line.

The under 6 boys performed well for the night in the 70m sprint, discus and long jump with Lance Tucker jumping 1.37m.

In the discus Felix Dunford came out in front with a distance of 3.96m closely followed by Felix Hart-McRobert’s throw of 3.60m.

In the senior competition the under 14 boys participated in the javelin, with Jacob Gordon taking that one out for the night with a 17.23m throw.

Les Jagger and Josh Cameron had a tight battle in the 200m run.

Les finishing with 29.90 seconds closely followed by Josh crossing the line in 30.67 seconds.

The 100m sprint for the under 16 girls was a highlight of the night with Bethany Izzard recording a time of 15.30 seconds with Kyla Gordon just behind on 15.64 seconds.

This weekend will be busy for the Mount Gambier athletes starting with Friday night’s meet featuring Olympian Izzi Batt-Doyle taking the athletes for a training session.

This will be followed by Saturday’s Mount Gambier Gift held at Vansittart Park with 18 athletes competing in the 120m sprint and 14 athletes in the 800m events.

Sunday will also see a group of athletes compete in the Blue Lake Fun Run to cap off a huge weekend of running in Mount Gambier.
