Athletics sprints to finish

With only three meets left of the Mount Gambier Little Athletics 2022/2023 season we are seeing many great results and personal best from our athletes.

There were 120 personal best times and distances were recorded by athletes on Friday night in perfect weather conditions.

Athletes are gaining confidence and improving each week which is fantastic to see.

Friday night saw coach Sally Taylor take the tiny tots through a variety of different running, jumping and throwing activities.

The U14 males competed in the 90m hurdles, shotput, high jump, 800m and 100m sprint.

The hurdles saw Peter Izzard and Les Jagger with personal bests in this event pushing each other right to the finish line.

Peter also gained a personal best in the shotput closely followed by Jacob Gordon.

In the high jump Josh, Jacob and Peter tied for top position and the added bonus of all receiving personal bests for the efforts.

Long distance runner Josh came away with a personal best time in the 800m, falling short of the centre record held since 2004.

The 100m was an extremely close sprint taken out by Les Jagger narrowly crossing the line just before Peter Izzard.

The U12 females put their athleticism to the test in the triple jump.

Annabelle Gordon claimed the jump with a 7.51m leap, just ahead of Rubi Watson and Saskia Brogan.

Rubi was successful in the javelin throw and also claimed a personal best with a 11.65m throw.

In the long distance race for the night Saskia crossed the line in first place claiming the honours for the 800m.

Eliza Peters had a great night achieving personal best in the 100 metres, 800 metres and 80 metre hurdles.
