Baseball action continues under Friday night lights

Tigers V Federals

Friday night baseball will see Federals take on last year’s premiership winners in Tigers for the first time in the 22/23 season as the game gets under way at 8pm.

It is a match that will see former Federals players Alex Reppin, Sam Shepard and Travis Younghusband don the orange and black against a club they all won multiple Syd Hosking Cups with.

Shepard and Reppin will bring the noise if they are paired up as a pitcher and catcher duo and it is another option for Tigers coach Karl Ransom to add to his book.

Federals welcomed back Alex Pearson last week and he will be the key to get the Federals boy firing as he continues to stamp his name as a top five player in Mount Gambier with his baseball smarts and excellent batting.

Garth Ransom will be expected to carry the pitching duties in Round 3 to give both Reppin and brother Karl a spell.

The game on paper looks like it could be a hard challenge for Federals, but baseball is a funny game.

Prediction: Tigers 5 run winners.

Centrals v South Indians

Saturday afternoon will see the red-hot Centrals take on up-and-coming South Indians which shapes as a damaged game for Centrals.

South has shown in the first two weeks that although they are a young side they are not afraid to swing the bat and led by Jesse Balshaw this will have teams nervous as the season progresses.

Centrals have yet to unleash gun Dylan Chuck on the hill and this shapes as the game he could be let loose.

Centrals have a raft of big hitters and this is where the match will be won or lost, if they fire it could be a run frenzy but If South coach Ryan Placcuci can throw around the sweet spot, Centrals might just struggle.

The on-base speed of Ridding and Meinck from Centrals will also be key to Centrals getting runs across the plate while South will be sweating on the fitness of Ben Nash (hamstring) to ensure they have their own on base danger.

This match shapes as the match of the round, with a large crowd expected Saturday afternoon.

Prediction: Centrals by 4
