Baseball legends host annual Masters event

The Mount Gambier Legends Baseball Club is hosting the 15th annual Mount Gambier Baseball Masters tournament at Blue Lake Sports Park this weekend.

It will be a massive three-day affair with nine teams taking part across three pools and 22 games in the officially sanctioned event from the Australian Baseball Federation.

Six teams from Adelaide including two teams from the Northern Aces, three from the Adelaide Aces including a Women’s team and Playford City have accepted the invitation.

Two clubs from Mount Gambier will play in the tournament with Mount Gambier Tigers and the Legends stepping up, while from Victoria, Diamond Dogs returns after a four-year hiatus will also join us.

Three pools have been designated with Pool A consisting of Adelaide Aces B, Mount Gambier Tigers and Northern Aces Blue.

Pool B includes Adelaide Aces A, Playford and Diamond Dogs, while Legends, Adel L’aces and Northern Aces Grey make up Pool C.

The draw will be then redrafted to play a series of cross pool games with the ladders being adjusted to reflect the games wins and losses overall.

The top five teams then have the chance of playing off for the much sort after medallions and the winner’s trophy.

All teams will play a minimum of four games each and two diamonds will be constantly in use over the weekend. With all games being 90 minutes.

Two games will be played on Friday with the first game on Diamond one starting at 6.15pm between Adelaide Aces and Legends.

The final game for the day between Victoria and South Australia with Diamond Dogs up against Adelaide Aces A starts at 8pm under lights.

Thirteen games will be played on Saturday with the first at 8am and the final game of the day, a cross pool game, starts at 8.30pm under lights.

A round of three cross pool games will start at 8am on Sunday before the final series begins at 9.45am.

The playoff for the bronze medallions starts at 1.30pm on Diamond two while the battle for Gold and Silver on Diamond one begins at 1.15pm

The winning team in will have their name engraved on the perpetual trophy and medallions will be presented to the players in the clubrooms following the last game.

Full catering facilities are available at the baseball clubrooms all weekend.
