Batters hit big in the sun

Awarm Saturday afternoon greeted players for the 16th round of the Mount Gambier and District Baseball League season.

It was particularly hot at Millicent’s Bolton Reserve where the Bandits hosted the Tigers.

Tigers and regaining league medallist Garth Ransom was on the hill and for the Bandits it was the ever reliable Darcy Pink.

Tigers got away early with a two-run first innings thanks to some great hitting.

Tigers showed a solid team which included veteran Ben Marcus back in the top grade looking clean and well poised to pounce and make it a blood bath early on.

Millicent/Federals struggled with the bat and could not hit Ransom, as his knuckle ball played tricks on all.

Tigers again knocked in some much-needed runs, bringing the total to four to zero early in the piece.

Millicent finally broke the drought in the fifth when Pink scored from second on an over throw and the Millicent folk loved it.

Tigers found another gear and the pitching change the bandits did just did not work, with the Tigers boys enjoying it.

When a Karl Ransom double scored two runs, the umpire signalled time and game with the final score being 11-1.

In the other game, Centrals were too strong for South winning by mercy rule back in Mount Gambier.

Tigers will play host to Centrals next Sunday in a double header, whilst Millicent/ Federals will host South in a Double header which if Millicent can get a couple runs they will possibly sneak into a finals position.
