Bayside auto action ‘peaks’

Temporary road closures will take place at Port MacDonnell when a two-day event takes place in February.

Grant District Council has shown its support for the seventh Twin Peaks Hill Climb to go ahead.

Council will engage a certified traffic control company to arrange closure to a portion of Surfers Way and Finger Point Road.

Mount Gambier’s South East Automobile Club (SEAC) will host the two-day event from February 12-13.

In his report on the matter, council’s works manager Adrian Schutz said the Minister for Transport had delegated the power to councils to close roads for the staging of road events.

Mr Schutz also reflected on the popularity of the event, stating in previous years it had been successful and had brought many visitors to the Port MacDonnell area.

The event’s 2022 director Paul Height contacted council on behalf of SEAC seeking council’s support.

Mr Height said the event had been staged on these roads in the past, along with the waste transfer station as the event pit area.

He said based on the past figures the club was expecting 120 to 170 people directly to be involved in the event as well as around 200 spectators.
