Best of the best dancers line up

Fifteen dancers from the Margaret Cleves School of Dancing travelled to Melbourne on the Easter long weekend to compete in the prestigious Champion of Champions Championship of Australia.


Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos opened the weekend event which is the most prestigious competition on the Australian Highland Dancing calendar.


Local students were part of over 300 dancers from locally, interstate and internationally aged from four to over 50 years old.


Ms Reichelt said the local dancers performed extremely well, coming home with lots of sashes, medals and trophies.


“You did your studio proud,” she said.


“A special mention to Laura and Agnes who qualified for the Champion of Champions championship.


“A special mention to our Rory who showed so much improvement at the competition.


“It was a really fun weekend away for our families. It was great to all stay together and enjoy the social side of dancing.”


On the Saturday, the 15 students took home a combined nine gold medals, 10 silver and four bronze medals.


In the Royal Park Pre Premiers on Sunday, Georgia Clark won the title in the Beginners 8 Years, Abigail won the Beginners 10 Year title and Laura Le Cornu and Bree Bowen placed first and second in the Novice 7-8 Years Title respectively.
