Bowls action at the Bay

The Port MacDonnell Bowling Club held its men’s and women’s 100-up competition on Sunday in cold and wet conditions.

Four women took part and were sponsored by Your Podiatry.

In the knockout rounds Sharon Perryman defeated Julie Beaman and Carol Schmidt defeated Lyn Vanderley.

The final was a close contest with Sharon defeating Carol 100-76

Thirteen men competed, sponsored by F & K Butler.

Adam Wilson defeated Des Horrigan and Keith Dowdell to reach the final, while Terry Seiler proved too good for Barry Schmidt, George Johnson and Jim Phillpott to reach the final against Adam Wilson.

Adam staved off the contest from Terry, going on to win 101-93 in a very entertaining match.

In the mid-week competition Port MacDonnell Blue 52 shots 6 points defeated Millicent Red 44-2 at Millicent.

Terry Seiler’s rink lost to Sarah Ross 24-27, David Beaman’s rink had a good win over Derk Pietersma 28-17.

Port MacDonnell Red 40 shots 0 points lost to Naracoorte – 54-8 at Naracoorte.

Heather Richards’ rink lost to Bev King 24-28 and Keith Dowdell lost to Ron Garton 16-26.

In the ladies’ Friday Division 1 pennant Port MacDonnell 53 shots 6 points defeated Kingston 32-2 at Kingston.

Jan Dowdell’s rink had a big win against Christine Watts 34-11 and Heather Richards went down by two against Heidi Gribble 19-21

Saturday’s Division 1 open pennant hosted some tight matches, with Port MacDonnell 56 shots 4 points losing to Naracoorte RSL 64-8 points at Naracoorte RSL.

Keith Dowdell’s rink got home by one shot over David O’Shaughnessy 18-17 and in another close game Heather Richards won 25-24 against Ryan O’Shaughnessy, which was not enough to cover Adam Wilson who lost against Graham East 13-23.

It was a much improved effort by the Bay side on the road.

In Division 2 Port MacDonnell 85 shots 12 points had a good win against Frances 60-0 at Frances.

Jennie Tilley’s rink had a good win by 14 shots over Neil Frith 29 -15.

Danny Gaut got home by eight shots against Jon Buckley 30-22 and Kel Butler won by three shots over Nigel Eylward 26-23.

In Division 3 Port MacDonnell 64 shots 0 points went down to Mount Gambier RSL Blue 78 shots 12 points, Don Forbes’ rink led all day and lost on the last end to Helen Moulden 22-23.

Justin Brown’s rink started well then lost 11 shots and finally went down to Tony Freeman 24-29.

Robert Hutchesson found the going hard against Alan Coulson, going down 18-26.
