Bowls club gains momentum

The Mount Gambier RSL Bowling Club has been gaining momentum recently after a busy week on the greens.

The Mixed Triples Club Championship Mixed Triples was played recently with a strong line-up being contested.

A total of 16 teams entered the competition with a solid performance from the eventual winners of Ron Ploenges, Karen Doman and Simon Attiwill being the only team to win three games for the day.

Runners-up on a count-back were Brenton Wittwer, Beryl Messenger  and Philip Wilson.

The Midweek Pennant Competition restarted with mixed results for Mount Gambier RSL.

Its Red team went down to Mount Gambier Red by 13 shots with one rink able to register a draw.

Better fortunes followed the Blue team downing Mount Gambier Green by 11 shots with both rinks being able to get the win to enable a maximum of 14 points.

Three Mount Gambier RSL sides played in the women’s pennant competition.

Reigning Division 1 premiers RSL Red scored a convincing 24-shot victory over Mount Gambier by registering a maximum haul of 14 points.

Unfortunately, the Division 1 Blue team was defeated at home by a determined Kingston team by an overall 13 shots.

The Division 3 team made a valiant effort, but went down by four shots to a strong Mount Gambier outfit.

The Saturday Open competition was headlined by an all Mount Gambier RSL clash.

The Red side defeated Blue by 36 shots in Division 1 to score a maximum 16 points.

Strawb Masters skippered the closest game for the Red team just overcoming Wayne Legutko’s rink by one shot.

RSL Red is top of the ladder leading Naracoorte by 14 points.

Division 2 saw Mount Gambier RSL travel to Naracoorte RSL and came back with a 38-shot win with strong wins for John Spher’s and Graham Smith’s rinks.

Division 3 travelled to Penola and suffered a 21-shot loss.

Mount Gambier RSL only enjoyed one successful rink skippered by Noel Miller.

In Division 4, Mount Gambier RSL continued its winning ways with an 11-shot home victory over Beachport Blue.

Unfortunately, the Men’s Aggregate competition was cancelled due to inclement weather.
