Businesses ‘strap in’ for super season

Limestone Coast businesses will be along for the ride when talented Mount Gambier racing sensation Kai Allen hits the track this season for Eggleston Motorsport in the Dunlop Super2 Series.

The young gun has secured local businesses Homestyle Bakery, WFC Contracting Co, Triple S Distributors and Arena Sports Store as sponsors for the coming season.

Allen said he had been buoyed by the generous support of well-known hometown businesses, who will ride the circuit with him.

“Homestyle Bakery supported me all last year in the Super3 program and are continuing on to Super2,” Allen said.

“They have been a great support and really willing and helpful by sponsoring me which allows me to go racing.

“The Holmes family (at WRC Contracting Co) have been really good, they have helped me from a young age, even before I got into racing.

“They built me a little clay track out in my front yard so ever since I was four years old I have been running around on go karts and everything, tuning my skills up.

“Triple S distributors, the Scott family there are helping me out which is really cool, so they are locked in and ready to go and Arena Sports Store with the de Wit family has come on board.

“It is really nice to have those people come on board to support me and allow me to go racing.”

Allen said he was in the process of organising a sponsor ride day.

“I am trying to do a sponsor ride day, so they get to sit in the passenger seat of my Supercar, and I take them around the hot lap at either Tailem Bend or Sandown,” he said.

“That is a part of the package as well, you pay for sponsorship which helps me out and I try and give something back by giving you an experience of a lifetime.

“Two people from each business can come down and have a go and sit as a passenger, get an experience and understand what it is like to sit in a Supercar and go flat-out around the tracks.”

Allen said it was “unreal” to have his hometown support his motorsport aspirations.

“It is so good, especially your hometown, growing up here and knowing a lot of these people, it is cool bringing them on the journey along with me to try and achieve my goal,” he said.

“It is cool trying to get their brand exposure out to Australia as a whole nation with all the television coverage and everything.

“It is really nice having those people on board, I’m looking forward to getting hopefully a few more along the way, working hard at it and doing as much as I can to give back as much as they give me.

“There are a few more (sponsors) in the pipeline which have been really good and who have reached out, supporting a young kid trying to chase his dreams and it is really cool they can sponsor me and they get to see me go around on track with their business logo on the car.

“That is what it basically is at the moment, just trying to chase as many Mount Gambier businesses as I can and trying to build up a bit of backing from the really good country town it is, and trying to allow me to go chase my dreams.”

Allen said he appreciated businesses sponsoring him because they were helping a young kid try to achieve his goals.

“You get a lot of television exposure and brand awareness but it is really cool to help me out and they can get an experience with this passenger ride day that I am doing,” he said.

“It is mainly just to help me out to achieve my goals and a lot of people do it as an enjoyment and something to look forward to which is really cool and then some people do it to try and get their business out there too, so depending on what they are doing we try and cater to what they want.”

Allen will debut in the 2023 Dunlop Super2 Series at the Thrifty Newcastle 500 on March 10-12 this year.

He will pilot the ex-Team 18 Scott Pye #20 Nulon Racing Holden ZB Commodore purchased by Eggleston Motorsport.

“It will be good to get kick-started at the streets of Newcastle, I have never been there before but I’m really looking forward to it with a new car but same team as last year,” he said.

“I have got to learn the new car and obviously a new category jumping up to Super2 from Super3, it is going to be a bit of a change.

“There is a lot of competition in Super2 and it is going to be very entertaining.

“It is going to be a lot of hard work, but we just have to go for it and see what happens.

“I’m trying to prepare as much as I can to make sure I am ready to go and just whatever happens, happens after that, so I’m just trying to do as much as I can.

“I cannot wait to get this season under way.”
